There is a lot more to Lembu fabrics than meets the eye. Upstairs from the tranquil gallery a team of people are hard at work, creating distinctive functional art pieces in the form of scatter cushions, table runners, wall hangings etc. Each item is unique, has it’s own number series and personal ‘animal’ story. All the animals are lovingly etched out on stamps which are applied, by hand, to the painted fabric while wet. This is allowed to dry and finished off with beads, shells and other decorative items by a team of ladies. The final product is then provided with it’s very own ‘Hand Painted in Africa’ certificate that explain the African story of the particular animals that have been stamped onto the fabric.
